Differences in healthcare utilization by cognitive status Lead Investigator: Deborah Levine Institution : University of Michigan E-Mail : deblevin@umich.edu Proposal ID : 703 Proposal Description: The objectives are to determine the extent to which MCI patients are receiving sub-standard CVD care, increasing the chance of mortality and morbidity in a population with otherwise good quality of life, and to determine how MCI influences patient preferences and physician recommendations for treatment. The rationale is that, once it is known how patient preferences and physician recommendations contribute to underuse of CVD treatments in MCI patients, which treatments are underused, and the outcomes of underuse, then innovative interventions can be designed to improve decision making and care for CVD. We will test our hypothesis using 2 specific aims: Aim 1. Compare AMI and stroke treatments between MCI patients and cognitively normal patients. Aim 2. Determine the influence of MCI on patient and surrogate preferences and physician recommendations for AMI and stroke treatment.
